To ensure safety when using chemicals and to protect human health and the environment, the European Union has introduced new legislation for products containing diisocyanates. These compounds, which are widely used in the production of polyurethanes, are subject to the new EU-REACH legislation. In this article you can read what REACH means, why this legislation is important and what consequences this legislation has for you.
REACH stands for "Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals". It is an ambitious European regulation aimed at protecting human health and the environment from the risks of chemicals. REACH places responsibility on manufacturers, importers and users of chemicals to provide information on their properties and potential risks, and to implement safety measures to control these risks.
Diisocyanates are essential building blocks for polyurethane products used in many industries. When applying such polyurethane products, users may be exposed to monomeric diisocyanates. These compounds contain harmful properties that in some cases can cause allergic reactions and health problems upon exposure. Legislation on diisocyanates emphasises the need to provide safety information, assess risks and take appropriate measures to protect the health of users and the environment.
From 24 August 2023, all professional and industrial users must undergo training before using such products. In the approximately 45-minute training course, you will learn how to work safely with diisocyanates. At the end of the training, you will take a short test of 10 multiple-choice questions to obtain your certificate.
You can follow a free course (including certification) via Polyestershoppen. By following the steps below, you can receive the course and certification in the safe handling of diisocyanates according to the legal training requirements of the REACH Regulation. Follow the steps below to receive a free PU course.
Good luck with the course!
*You can follow an additional course for the type of consumption (painting, spraying, etc.) if required.
