What is a pressure pot and why do you need one?

Do you work with epoxy resin, silicone rubber, or polyurethane casting resin? Then a pressure pot (also called a pressure chamber or pressure tank) can be incredibly useful for creating completely bubble-free castings. Air bubbles can affect the final appearance of your project, especially with transparent or finely detailed molds. Using a pressure pot compresses the air bubbles in the resin, making them smaller or even eliminating them entirely.

The BILTEC pressure pot for resin casting is specially designed for use with various types of resin and offers a simple, safe way to take your casting projects to the next level. In this article, you’ll learn more about how to use the pressure pot and its key benefits!

What exactly does a pressure pot do?

A pressure pot is used to place the cast object under pressure, usually up to around 4 bar (60 psi). This pressure compresses the air bubbles in the resin mixture, making them much smaller or completely invisible in the final result. This is especially important when working with:

  • Epoxy resin for jewellery, coasters or tables.
  • Polyester resin for model building or automotive parts.
  • Silicone rubber when producing moulds.
  • Polyurethane for technical applications.

Note: when casting porous materials like wood or flowers, the resin can be forced into the material under pressure rather than allowing air to escape. Keep this in mind during your design process.

The benefits of the BILTEC Pressure Pot

The BILTEC Pressure Pot is a user-friendly solution suitable for both hobbyists and professionals. The pressure pot is sturdy, safe, and easy to use. Key features include:

  • 8-liter capacity (suitable for small to medium-sized castings).
  • Maximum working pressure of 4 bar (safety valve at 5 bar).
  • Easy installation and operation.
  • Durable and safe design.
  • Perfect bubble-free results.

How to install and use the pressure pot

Follow these instructions to set up the BILTEC Pressure Pot. In the instructional video, product specialist Herman demonstrates all steps.

  1. Mount the pressure regulator on the lid (tighten firmly with a 17 mm wrench)..
  2. Attach the control screw to the regulator.
  3. Place the carrying handle on the lid.
  4. Position the lid on the tank and hand-tighten the four locking screws.
  5. Connect the air hose to both the compressor and the pressure pot.
  6. Close the ball valve.
  7. Start the compressor.
  8. Set the pressure using the control screw (maximum 4 bar).
  9. Remove the air hose if desired and allow the casting to cure in the tank.
  10. After curing, release the pressure via the ball valve and open the tank.

Maintenance tip: keep the pressure pot clean and regularly check seals, hoses, and components for damage.
