Vinylester resin
- Good chemical resistance
- Osmosis resistant
- High temperature resistance
Vinylester resin from RESION is a very strong, heat-resistant and non-shrink resin with high resistance to water and chemicals. This makes this resin extremely suitable for mould making, osmosis treatment and making heat-resistant products such as a hot tub. The material has good adhesion to various substrates such as old polyester, many plastics and metals.
Vinylester resin is considered an alternative to epoxy, as it has good resistance to water and chemicals. However, an advantage of vinyl ester resin over epoxy is that it cures faster and you can use it with all types of glass fibres. Whereas you can only use epoxy in combination with glass fabric, you can use vinylester with both glass fabric and the cheaper glass mat.
So you can use vinylester resin very well as an alternative to epoxy if you are looking for a strong material with fast curing and high resistance to water and chemicals.
Benefits of vinylester resin
- Faster curing and processing than epoxy.
- Can be processed with glass chopped strand mat (and glass mat in turn is cheaper than glass fabric, which you have to use with epoxy).
- Very high resistance to water and chemicals.
- High resistance to osmosis.
- Good adhesion to various substrates, like polyester, aluminum and steel.
Applications
The aforementioned advantages of vinylester resin make it suitable for a number of specific applications.
Osmosis treatment
Boat osmosis can be treated and prevented by using vinylester resin. Osmosis formation in the laminate of your boat can cause parts of the laminate to separate from each other (delamination). This causes it to lose tensile and flexural strength and thus reduces the strength of the hull. Vinylester resin is vapour-tight and therefore highly osmosis-resistant. This makes vinylester resin ideally suited to use for osmosis repairs or for osmosis prevention.
Heat resistant projects
Want to make your own hot tub? Due to its high heat resistance, during and after processing, vinylester resin is very suitable for making your own hot tub, swimming pool or jacuzzi. The high heat resistance of vinylester resin also makes it very suitable for other projects, such as mould making.
