What do you use a clay bar for?
If you plan to polish your vehicle after claying or if the surface contains dirt that cannot be removed with a fine grade clay, we recommend using this clay bar. A clay bar is essential for removing the most stubborn dirt from the surface of your car, boat or caravan after you have washed it. If not removed, this dirt can cause scratches during polishing or applying a protective layer. The Martin Cox clay bar is available as a fine grade clay bar or a medium grade clay bar, which effectively removes stubborn dirt. Medium grade is heavier than fine and designed to tackle heavy cleaning situations. Fine grade is generally used for most situations, but if you have a heavily soiled vehicle a medium grade bar or alternative is great to have on hand.
Please note: when used on softer paints, the medium clay bar can cause marring and swirls.
Instructions for use
Use the Martin Cox clay bar in the following way:
- Wash the surface thoroughly with a good car shampoo and rinse to remove coarse dirt.
- Divide the clay into two parts (use one part and keep the other part).
- Knead the clay bar into a ball and then into a disk (maximum 0.5 cm-1 cm thick).
- Moisten the surface with a lubricant such as Farecla MultiCleaner or Farecla Rapid Detailer.
- Rub the clay bar over the surface with light pressure in straight short movements, letting the clay slide over the paint.
- Continue rubbing until the surface feels smooth.
- Rinse the surface and store the clay bar in an airtight container or resealable bag after use.
Reuse the clay bar
If the clay bar changes colour, it means the side used is becoming saturated. Fold back the corners of the clay bar so that the dirt is moved to the interior of the clay and you have a clean piece of clay to continue working with. This folding technique can be repeated until the clay bar is completely saturated.
