  • Chopped carbon fibres
  • Suitable for Forged Carbon
  • Size: 12 mm, 20 mm, 30 mm

Chopped up carbon fibres are made for making 'forged carbon'. The chopped carbon fibres are perfectly cut to size (6 mm or 12 mm) and are ideal for creating both structural and aesthetic parts.

What is Forged Carbon?

Forged carbon is a type of carbon fibre material composed of small pieces of carbon fibre composite material that are pressed into shape as the resin sets. This creates a unique effect. The biggest difference between regular woven carbon fibre (twill or square) and forged carbon fibre is that forged carbon is made from tiny chopped carbon fibres rather than a large mat of continuous fabric. There is no distinct pattern as the fibres are oriented entirely randomly, so each finished forged carbon product will be unique to itself!

Forged carbon is ideal for complex shapes and decorative use. The carbon fibres are ideal for hand lay-up and processing with vacuum techniques, making them versatile in various projects.

Features

  • Suitable for making forged carbon.
  • The carbon chips are available in 12 mm, 20 mm and 30 mm lengths.

Processing of chopped carbon fibres

To make forged carbon you can use one of the resins below:

For seamless coverage when laminating the fibres, consumption is approximately 400 to 500 grams per square metre, with the epoxy required equal to the weight of the carbon fibres. When pressing forged carbon parts, a ratio of 60% carbon and 40% epoxy is recommended. To ensure you have enough epoxy resin, we recommend mixing approximately 1.25 times the weight of the carbon fibres in epoxy.
