You see it a lot these days: beautiful paintings, tables, coasters, bowls or other resin art creations with a 'beach look' (beach + wavy water). This super cool technique is also called 'Ocean Art'. In this article we explain step by step how you can apply this technique yourself. Do you have questions about Resin Art? Please feel free to contact our specialists. We are happy to help you!
In the video below, Leen explains step by step how to make an Ocean Resin Art painting. All steps are written down below the video so that you can read it at your leisure.
In the video Leen uses the products below. You can of course also use other colors for your artwork. With the Ocean Art package you immediately have all the products at home to get started!
Prepare the epoxy you are going to use according to the mixing ratio on the packaging. We use the RESION UV Resin Art Epoxy HV. Due to the high viscosity, this epoxy flows very thickly, making the different colours less likely to blend into each other. This way you can 'control' the colours very nicely. RESION UV Resin Art Epoxy has a mixing ratio of 2:1 and is odorless. This makes the epoxy very easy to use.
Mix both components well and divide the epoxy over a number of mixing cups. Mix the desired colour pigments into the epoxy. In the video we use Resi-Tint MAX. This pigment paste provides a very opaque and even colour. Resi-Tint MAX is available in more than 20 colours and is very powerful, you only need 3% pigment paste for an opaque colour!
Now that you have mixed the epoxy properly, let's start pouring the sea into the artwork. In the video we use the round MDF sheet to create the Ocean Art artwork. Pour the epoxy slowly in strips over the surface. After pouring, you can distribute the colours with your hand (make sure you always wear good gloves that do not let epoxy through), brush or with an epoxy spreader (laminating spatula). You can use a heat gun to make the colours blend nicely.
Now let the epoxy harden for about 8 hours.
In the video, Leen makes the beach with Resi-Crete in the colour 'Sand-dollar'. You can of course also use real sand or something similar for this. Prepare Resi-Crete according to the instructions for use:
After applying the Resi-Crete you can decorate the beach with shells and stones as desired. Allow this to harden for approximately 3 hours.
Once you've created the beach and sea, you can move on to the next step: adding waves!
First, apply a layer of transparent epoxy. Spread this layer over the surface with a laminating spatula or brush. You can then make waves in the sea with Resi-Tint MAX Titanium White. Apply the pigment in thin layers. You can create beautiful flowing waves using the 'swipe technique' or using a heat gun (you can also use a hair dryer, but it creates less heat)!
Once you are satisfied with your waves you can let the Ocean Resin Art artwork harden completely.
Once the last layer has hardened properly, you can coat the workpiece again with a layer of RESION UV Resin Art Epoxy HV. To create extra depth, you can also add waves.
