DIY | Make your own Resin Art clocks

In this article, we will explain how you can very easily make your own Resin Art clock. You will need RESION UV Epoxy Resin and various Resin Art pigments. Especially for the Resin Art starter, we have put together a Resin Art starter kit, which contains everything you need!

Supplies:

• RESION UV Resin Art Epoxy Low viscosity or Medium viscosity
• Mixing spatulas
• Mixing cups small
• 1 mixing cup large
• Nitrile gloves
• Pigments
• Gas burner
• Spirit level
• Tape (optional)
• A round piece of plywood or an old long-playing record
• Hands and technical parts of a clock

Step 1. Preparation

When working with epoxy, always wear nitrile gloves. Then cover the surface you are going to work on with plastic film, so you can easily clean up splatters. Epoxy will not adhere to plastic film.

Next, make a raised edge of tape around the canvas or plate to minimise loss of casting resin. Make sure this is firmly attached and at least 1 centimetre high. Next, check that the slab is level. If it is not, make sure it is by placing a stirring stick under the surface, for example. It is very important that it is level, otherwise everything will flow in one direction.

You can also choose not to make an edge of tape and let the resin flow over the edge. In that case, use the thicker Mastercast Artwork Epoxy, so that not too much resin runs off. Do put something under the substrate in this case.

Step 2. Prepare epoxy for use

Mix epoxy components A and B in the large mixing cup. You can find the correct mixing ratio on the packaging. You can also mix everything at once. Stir it in the same direction for about 3 minutes to avoid air bubbles as much as possible. Then fill the smaller mixing cups with epoxy. The amount per cup depends on how many colours you want to use and how much of a colour you want to use.

Step 3. Pouring the epoxy

Once the pigments have been stirred well, it's time to start pouring the colours. The easiest way is to start with the darkest colour and work your way lighter and lighter. Make sure the amount of liquid is fairly evenly distributed over the canvas, if not, it may be difficult to cover the edges of the artwork. If desired, you can use a spatula to apply the colours last.

Once you have poured the desired shapes, you can move the canvas slightly to cover the blank areas and create a 'flow' effect. Make sure you put the canvas back level.

Step 4. Finishing

If you are happy with the result of your artwork, while the epoxy is still liquid, you can use a gas burner to remove the air bubbles from the Resin Art. This can be done immediately after pouring.

After about a day, the epoxy will be hard enough to remove the tape. When this is done, you will notice that the edge is not neatly smooth. By carefully heating the edge with a gas burner, the edge will become neatly smooth. Finally, you can assemble the clockwork with the hands. This is available in many hobby shops and various webshops.
