Epifanes Mahogany Stain
- Warm mahogany red stain
- Fast-drying
- For interior and exterior use
Epifanes Mahogany Stain is a fast-drying, penetrating wood stain that gives timber a rich, warm mahogany colour. The wood stain is suitable for restoring faded or discoloured wood before applying a varnish system.
Applications
Epifanes stain is suitable for new work on solid bare wood (for example, meranti, mahogany, Oregon pine, teak, iroko) and plywood. It can be used indoors and outdoors for areas above the waterline.
Directions for use
Follow these steps to apply Epifanes Mahogany Stain correctly:
- Ensure the wood is bare, clean, dry, and free of grease; degrease with Epifanes 1-C Thinner or white spirit.
- Sand the bare wood in the direction of the grain. Smooth wood: P180–P220; coarse wood: P60–P80. Then sand progressively finer up to P220. Remove all sanding dust.
- Shake the container and apply the mahogany stain in thin coats using a soft brush or microfibre cloth, always following the grain.
- Allow each coat to dry for at least 2 hours at 20°C. Use a maximum of 3 coats for an intense colour. No sanding is required between coats.
- Remove any stains or runs immediately with Epifanes Thinner or turpentine and avoid applying overly thick layers.
- Apply at 10–30°C, with 50–85% relative humidity, avoiding direct sunlight, and ensure good ventilation.
- Epifanes Mahogany Stain is dust-dry after 30 minutes and overcoatable after 2 hours at 20°C.
You can finish Epifanes Mahogany Stain with a 1-component high-gloss clear varnish such as Epifanes Clear Varnish, Epifanes Hardwood Oil Varnish, or with a 2-component varnish such as Epifanes Poly-urethane Yacht Paint or Epifanes PP Varnish Extra.
