Product description

Silicone casting rubber Shore A40 is the stiffest semi-transparent silicone casting rubber in our range. This hard silicone rubber is translucent (semi-transparent) and is ideal for producing large moulds that require excellent structural strength. As a result, it is the preferred choice for moulds used to cast concrete, tin or copper.

RESION silicone casting rubber features a simple 1:1 mixing ratio, making measuring and mixing quick and easy.

Features of translucent silicone casting rubber Shore 40

Unlike the black version, this silicone casting rubber is translucent, giving the finished mould a semi-transparent appearance. Apart from its colour, this translucent silicone casting rubber offers the same properties as the other RESION silicone casting rubbers. The material combines high tensile strength with limited flexibility and moderate elasticity. As a result, moulds made from Shore A40 silicone casting rubber have a long service life and reproduce fine details with outstanding accuracy.

Once cured, the silicone rubber offers excellent resistance to polyester casting resins, polyurethane casting resins, plaster, concrete and many other casting materials. In addition, it is highly heat-resistant and exhibits minimal shrinkage.

Benefits of translucent silicone casting rubber Shore 40

  • Translucent in colour (semi-transparent).
  • High tensile strength.
  • Rigid (Shore 40).
  • Easy 1:1 mixing ratio.

Directions for use

Silicone casting rubber is easy to use thanks to its 1:1 mixing ratio. Follow the steps below for the best results.

  • Accurately weigh the base (Component A) and curing agent (Component B) using a scale in a 1:1 mixing ratio.
  • Thoroughly mix both components for approximately 3 minutes using a mixing spatula. Avoid mixing too vigorously. Be sure to scrape the sides and bottom of the mixing cup thoroughly. Then pour the mixture into a clean mixing cup and mix again until fully homogeneous.
  • The silicone casting rubber is now ready for use. The working time is approximately 45 minutes and the recommended processing temperature is 20 °C. At higher temperatures, curing will occur more quickly, giving trapped air bubbles less time to escape. At lower temperatures, the curing process will be slower.
  • After approximately 8 hours, the silicone casting rubber will be tack-free.

This silicone casting rubber can easily be converted into a brushable or spreadable silicone by adding a few percent of silicone thickening agent.
