Over time, the layers of hard antifouling accumulate. Want to avoid a thick layer of antifouling or osmosis blistering? Then it is wise to start with a clean slate after a few years and remove all antifouling from your steel boat. Make the hull completely bare and remove all paint from your boat. We recommend using a vacuum scraper for this. This is a handy paint scraping tool that is immediately usable thanks to the included razor-sharp blade. Moreover, the scraper is fitted with a suction nozzle for connection to the hoover hose which ensures dust-free disposal of the scraped-off material. Has the blade become dull? Then order the spare blades without having to pay shipping costs.
Do you suffer from osmosis on your polyester boat? Then first remove the gelcoat and clean the boat. In our information article on osmosis prevention you can read more about how to treat osmosis. Gel coat can be removed with a fibre disc including adapter to mount the disc on a grinder. Do wear a good dust mask and ensure good ventilation or do it outside.
To professionals or for larger boats, we recommend using a Tercoo rotary blaster with met spacer and dust cover. With the spacer, you set the blaster just right, allowing you to work quickly and effectively. The blaster is also ideal for removing paint and rust. So these Tercoo products might come in handy again!
Self-sharpening antifouling will wear off during the boating season. So at the end of the season, there will be little antifouling left on the underwater hull. Leftover self-sharpening antifouling is therefore easily removed with a pressure washer. Then apply a new layer of self-sharpening antifouling to the underwater hull so that you can enjoy your boat for another year!
