How to quickly remove paint from steel or polyester

How do you quickly remove paint or antifouling from steel, metal or polyester? A good question because sometimes you want to tackle your boat and remove old paint or antifouling before you start treating osmosis, spainting above the waterline (topcoating) or applying a new antifouling system. We are happy to point you in the right direction. In this blog article, we explain how to remove paint from metal.

We have the products in this article in stock for you. Not sure what you need? Then feel free to contact us.

Removing rust, paint or gelcoat from a steel boat

To quickly get your steel boat completely clean again, Polyestershoppen has a professional and affordable solution. With the Tercoo rotary blaster you can easily remove rust, paint or hard antifouling from your steel boat. This blaster is available in three variants: single, double or triple discs. The more discs, the faster it goes. With the Tercoo dust cover, you ensure that dust is removed efficiently with a hoover.

Do you have older paint residues on your boat? Then use the Tercoo rotary blaster!

Note: are you going to remove rust, paint or gelcoat on a polyester boat? Then use a Tercoo rotary blaster with spacer or a Gelplane vacuum scraper.

Removing hard antifouling from a polyester boat

Over time, the layers of hard antifouling accumulate. Want to avoid a thick layer of antifouling or osmosis blistering? Then it is wise to start with a clean slate after a few years and remove all antifouling from your steel boat. Make the hull completely bare and remove all paint from your boat. We recommend using a vacuum scraper for this. This is a handy paint scraping tool that is immediately usable thanks to the included razor-sharp blade. Moreover, the scraper is fitted with a suction nozzle for connection to the hoover hose which ensures dust-free disposal of the scraped-off material. Has the blade become dull? Then order the spare blades without having to pay shipping costs.

Gelcoat verwijderen met fiberschijf

Do you suffer from osmosis on your polyester boat? Then first remove the gelcoat and clean the boat. In our information article on osmosis prevention you can read more about how to treat osmosis. Gel coat can be removed with a fibre disc including adapter to mount the disc on a grinder. Do wear a good dust mask and ensure good ventilation or do it outside.

Tercoo roterende straler

To professionals or for larger boats, we recommend using a Tercoo rotary blaster with met spacer and dust cover. With the spacer, you set the blaster just right, allowing you to work quickly and effectively. The blaster is also ideal for removing paint and rust. So these Tercoo products might come in handy again!

Removing self-sharpening antifouling

Self-sharpening antifouling will wear off during the boating season. So at the end of the season, there will be little antifouling left on the underwater hull. Leftover self-sharpening antifouling is therefore easily removed with a pressure washer. Then apply a new layer of self-sharpening antifouling to the underwater hull so that you can enjoy your boat for another year!
