In this article we will explain to you step by step how to make your own boat stand. This DIY boat stand ensures that the bottom will not be damaged when working on the inside. In addition, you can also use the boat stand to safely transport the boat on a trailer. The boat stand in this article is made of polyester.
To make the boat stand, you will need the following products and materials:
First, cover the surface you want to treat with masking film and cut the glass fabric (450 grams) and Spherecore to size. Adding the Spherecore 3 mm will make the boat stand extra sturdy. Spherecore core material quickly absorbs a lot of polyester resin and gives your boat stand thickness without adding a lot of weight. The extra thickness increases the rigidity of the boat stand. The advantage is that it can be cut to size with scissors and is very easy to work with, so any do-it-yourselfer can get started with it, even the handyman with little experience.
Mix the polyester resin base and hardener well according to the mixing ratio indicated on the package. After the base and hardener are mixed well, you can apply it to the boat with the fiberglass mat. When working with polyester, think about your own safety and always use a fume mask, safety glasses and gloves. You may have noticed that the polyester resin discolors during processing. This is due to the "tracer" incorporated into the resin. This tracer causes the polyester resin to discolor when mixed with the hardener. This way you can be sure that the resin has been mixed correctly. Apply the polyester resin with a velour roller and roll it after with a vent roller.
After the polyester has cured, you are going to create a stable surface. In the video below, a pallet is used for this purpose.
Thanks to the boat stand, the boat is now stable and you can continue treating the inside of the boat.
