No, not really. What your floor will look like largely depends on the preparation. If a floor is first leveled with floor coating, after priming with a schraping layer or leveling epoxy, the floor is completely smooth after the epoxy floor coating has been applied.
That is why epoxy floor coating is also very suitable for residential spaces, for example. For larger areas, floor coating is much cheaper with the right preparation.
So when do you choose a cast floor? If you want a smooth floor immediately after priming, you can opt for epoxy screed. This product has a filling capacity of around 2-3 mm. Just make sure the unevenness of the substrate is not too great, otherwise preparation will still be necessary.
Epoxy self-leveling screed is many times stronger than floor coating in terms of impact load. Its chemical resistance is also higher. That is why epoxy self-leveling screed is also very suitable for industrial floors with high loads.
It is important to know to what extent the floor needs to be prepared to find out what the cost will be. To give a bit of an idea, we have created the table below for you with the price per m2 of epoxy floor coating. Guide prices include VAT. In this table, we have assumed a primer for dry substrates.
|Number of square metres
|Primer, high-gloss floor coating
|Primer, matt-gloss floor coating
|€ 225,97 / € 22,50 per square metre
|€ 295,96 / € 29,60 per square metre
|€ 399,97 / € 19,99 per square metre
|€ 532,95 / € 26,65 per square metre
|€ 809,97 / € 16,20 per square metre
|€ 1.059,96 / € 21,20 per square metre
|€ 1.579,44 / € 15,79 per square metre
|€ 2.054,42 / € 20,54 per square metre
Even with an epoxy cast floor, it is important to know how the floor should be prepared. Is it a concrete floor with a small bump here and there, a severely damaged concrete floor with many height differences or a tiled floor that first needs to be leveled? In most situations, a primer with an epoxy cast floor on top is sufficient. To give you an idea, we have created the table below for you with, as an indication, the price per m² for an epoxy cast floor.
|Number of square metres
|Primer + cast floor (high gloss)
|€ 459.98 / € 45.99 per square metre
|€ 890.47 / € 44.52 per square metre
|€ 2.082.44 / € 41.64 per square metre
|€ 3.607.39 / € 36.07 per square metre
A cast floor can of course also be given a matt finish.
