Minimize the risk of slipping: anti-slip solutions for epoxy floors

Epoxy floors are naturally very smooth. For many applications, this is also desirable, for example in living rooms and garages. But what to do when a smooth surface is not desired, as it can create dangerous situations, such as in bathrooms? In this article you will discover which floor solutions are available for the realization of a non-slip finish on your epoxy floor. You can read all about the advantages and disadvantages of the different products and we give detailed instructions on how to apply them.

Do you have any questions about these anti-slip options? Please don't hesitate to contact our specialists.

1. Epoxy floor coating with anti-slip grit (brown)

By incorporating anti-slip grit into your epoxy floor coating, you can easily make your epoxy floor not slippery. The combination of floor coating and anti-slip grit is very suitable for garages, driveways, workshops, bridge decks and industrial applications. This combination results in good anti-slip properties and is available in 3 grit sizes (fine, medium, coarse).

Advantages  Disadvantages
Good anti-slip properties Relatively sharp
Available in 3 grit sizes

Instructions for use (application):

The anti-slip grit can be used in two ways:

  • Sprinkling
With this method, you sprinkle the anti-slip grit evenly over the floor after applying the floor coating. Then let the floor harden for a nice anti-slip result.

  • Mixing
You can also choose to mix the grit directly with the coating before applying the coating. Add the grit during mixing and mix it well through the coating.

2. Epoxy floor coating with sprinkled grit (black/white)

The combination of floor coating and RESION decorative anti-slip granules gives a beautiful decorative effect at first glance. You conceal small mistakes and hide future scratches on the floor. In addition, the anti-slip granules add a slight anti-slip effect to the floor. Ideal for floors in living rooms, kitchens, toilets, showrooms, shops, etc.

Advantages Disadvantages
Decorative and looks great Limited anti-slip properties
Conceals minor flaws and defects Sprinkling requires practice
Conceals scratches

Instructions for use (application):

  • Process the floor coating according to the instructions.
  • Approximately 30-45 minutes after applying the floor, you can evenly sprinkle the grit over the floor.
  • Now let the floor coating harden according to the instructions.

3. Matte PU floor coating

By finishing your floor with a matte PU floor coating, you first protect the floor against scratches. In addition, you also add a light anti-slip effect with this top coating. This makes the coating extremely suitable for floors in living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, toilets, showrooms and shops where a light anti-slip effect is desired.

Advantages Disadvantages
Sleek and seamless appearance Limited anti-slip properties
No shiny floor
Conceals scratches
Wear-resistant

Instructions for use (application):

Apply the matte floor coating according to the following steps:

  • Step 1. Mixing and pre-reacting. Mix both components in a bucket with a mechanical mixer (low speed, approx. 300 rpm). Let the coating rest for a while and pour the mixture through a fine sieve into a clean bucket.

  • Step 2. Applying the coating. Pour the coating into a paint tray and apply it with a velvet roller. Start on the side where the light comes from and apply the coating parallel to the window in strips with a small overlap (wet on wet, but avoid puddles). Roll out the strips evenly crosswise to see and correct any roller marks.

  • Step 3. Curing. Now let the floor harden for at least 12 hours before you can walk on it. The optimum strength is achieved after 7 days. If necessary, you can apply the coating twice in one day. You can then process a second layer 3 hours after the first layer has hardened.
